Taoiseach's Cork office vandalised as details of previous 'personal threats' emerge

The Evergreen Rd office of Taoiseach Micheál Martin was vandalised overnight, with the words ‘Zionist pawn’ written on a window and red paint daubed on the walls.

The door of the office, which was also daubed with paint, had a notice affixed to it, accusing Mr Martin of complicity in 'the apartheid, occupation, and genocide of the Palestinian people inflicted by Israel'.

A spokesperson for Mr Martin confirmed that this was the third such attack on the Turner’s Cross office.

They added that personal threats have been made against the Taoiseach in recent times.

“I can confirm there was an act of vandalism on the constituency office last night, this is the third such attack,” the spokesperson said.

“Personal threats have also previously been sent to the office, warning the Taoiseach it will be made impossible for him to navigate in public spaces.

“This is a working office with constituency staff acting on a daily basis to support the community on various issues.

“Those responsible for these criminal acts and intimidatory and abusive threats are fundamentally anti-democratic,” they added.

“We believe the vast majority of people who are appalled by the situation in Gaza would have nothing to do with such actions.”
