“It is one of the best days of the year in the city and we cannot wait for September,” Editor of The Echo, Gráinne McGuinness, said.

“The buzz is always incredible, and we know how important it is for local causes.

"So whether you are there every year or are thinking of doing it for the first time, please save the date and join us on what is going to be a fantastic day.”

John Quigley of organisers Cork Athletics said it has been “a busy couple of months” preparing for the event, and that they hope to launch and open registration in late June or early July.

Last year, the event included a charity showcase for the first time ever, which Mr Quigley said was “a huge success”, adding that they’re hoping to expand it this year, with more charities taking part.

“We’re really looking forward to the event, we hope it will be bigger and better this year than ever, and we’re planning to introduce new innovations to make it a more family orientated event and to ensure that all spectators enjoy the event immensely," Mr Quigley said.

“The last two years we went for a different route, starting up around the old mills at Kennedy Quay, but this year we’re planning to go back to our original Marina-Blackrock Road 6k route, subject to Garda and council approval," Mr Quigley said.
