Cork County Council confirm cause of fire in Doneraile

There was minor damage to the property as a result of the fire.

Camp cooking equipment was the cause of a fire in Doneraile last night which led to a man being hospitalised, Cork County Council have confirmed.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 9.30pm last night, and the man in his 40s was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while others were treated by fire service and ambulance staff.

There was minor damage to the property as a result of the fire, which is believed to have been caused by accident, with gardaí saying that no offences have been disclosed.

A spokesperson for Cork County Council told The Echo: “At 9.30 pm last night, Mallow and Kanturk Fire Stations responded with three units to an incident in Doneraile town involving camping cooking equipment.

“The occupants were treated by Fire Service and HSE personnel. There was minor damage to the property. All units of the Fire Service were returned to their bases by 11.15pm.” 

A garda spokesperson told The Echo previously: “Gardaí assisted emergency services with an incident of fire at a domestic residence in Doneraile, Co. Cork on Wednesday May 14th 2025 at approximately 9:30 pm.

“A man in his 40s was injured during the incident and conveyed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“No offences have been disclosed.”
