New static speed camera on Cork road to commence operation today

An Garda Síochána announced this week that two Static Speed Safety Cameras in place in Wexford and Cork will commence operation today.
A new speed camera in Cork is to begin operating today at noon, to detect drivers over the speed limit.
The N22 Static Speed Safety Camera has been installed at Farnanes.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána announced this week that two Static Speed Safety Cameras in place on the R772 in Gorey, Co. Wexford and the N22 Farnanes in Co. Cork will commence operation today.
They explained: "Vehicles detected driving in excess of the posted speed limit will be subject to prosecution from Friday May 2 at midday."
Prosecution of speeding offences takes place by Fixed Charge Notice. The current Fixed Charge Notice is a €160 fine accompanied by 3 penalty points.
A total of 56 days is permitted by law for the payment of a fixed charge, with an initial period of 28 days from the date of the notice for payment at the fixed charge amount. A further period of 28 days is permitted to accept payment at the fixed charge amount plus 50%.
They can be paid at any post office, online at the Garda website, or by post to An Garda Síochána, P.O. Box 55, Kilrush, Co Clare.
