TD encourages people to submit opinions on Cork Luas

Social Democrats TD Pádraig Rice has encouraged people to make their opinions heard on the Cork Luas Proposed Emerging Route, launched last week by the government.

Luas Cork is a proposed 18km long light rail line with up to 25 stops running from Ballincollig to Mahon Point, connecting key destinations such as MTU, Cork University Hospital, UCC, Cork city centre, Kent Station, Cork Docklands, Blackrock, and Mahon.

The EPR also includes a proposed 1,000 vehicle park and ride facility in Ballincollig, a mobility hub in Mahon, a new public transport bridge connecting Kent Station to Kennedy Quay and new cycling infrastructure.

Mr Rice, a TD for Cork South Central, said it was important people got to have a say.

“As a public representative, it is my job to make sure the voices of the people I represent are heard.

“The Cork Luas is a vital project for Cork, and it is really important that everyone can have their say on the proposed route.”

He said the consultation period is now open and closes on Monday June 9 at 5.30pm, saying.

“I would strongly encourage people to have their say by registering on the portal and making a submission at Luascork.ie. People can also contact me directly at padraig.rice@oireachtas.ie with their thoughts and ideas.

“This project has the potential to transform Cork, and the more people’s ideas and concerns are considered, the better.”

Mr Rice said that he will be campaigning over the next few years to ensure this project is delivered.

“As of now we don’t know how much the Luas will cost or when it will open but these are the questions I’ll keep asking.”

He also informed people that there are several upcoming opportunities to meet and interact with the team behind the project.

These include from noon to 8pm on Monday, April 28 at the Kingsley Hotel; Tuesday April 29, at Páirc Uí Chaoimh; Tuesday, May 6 at the Metropole Hotel, and Friday, May 9 at The Carraig Centre, Ballincollig.
