All About Cork: City Hall celebration of Kabin Crew success

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Dan Boyle hosted a Civic Reception for Knocknaheeny’s Kabin Crew to celebrate their success over the last 12 years. The Kabin Crew is a vibrant group of songwriters, rappers, musicians and creatives based at The Kabin Studio in Knocknaheeny, Cork. The Kabin Studio is dedicated to nurturing young musical talent and creating a safe & friendly environment for young people to thrive.

Women In Sport Week events

In celebration of Women In Sport Week, Cork City Council and Cork Sports Partnership will host a new fun ‘Women’s Come and Try Tag Rugby’ event.

Open to all abilities, this fun introductory session will put you through your paces with fun games, skills, and game play. It will take place on Wednesday at LeisureWorld Churchfield from 7pm to 8pm. The event is free.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a women’s table tennis event will take place from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in James Kenneally Hall, Hollyhill.

This programme aims to provide an opportunity for women to play table tennis in a fun and supportive environment.

Then, next Sunday, March 9, from 9am to 12pm at Phoenix Kayak Club, Sunday’s Well, Lee Rd, Cork, women are invited to take their first dip into the fantastic watersport of kayaking. The event will be expertly lead by the Phoenix Kayak Club.

This taster is for those aged 16+. All participants must have their own wetsuit. Please bring a dry change of clothes and snacks.

There are many other events on across the city as part of Women In Sport Week. This week-long celebration aims to honour every woman and girl involved in sports, whether as players, coaches, officials, volunteers, or leaders. It also seeks to highlight the ongoing efforts of Sport Ireland, national governing bodies, local sports partnerships, and other stakeholders in promoting women’s participation in sports.

Join Cork City Partnership to celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday, March 7, in Farranree Community Centre.

Fitzgerald Park exhibition

Churchfield-based Sample-Studios is delighted to present ‘The Grammar of Home’ at The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion, Fitzgerald Park — a group exhibition featuring work by Cork-based artists Chris Finnegan, Colette Cronin, and Síomha Callanan — running until April 6.

This exhibition, which is curated by Susan Holland, head of participation at Cork Midsummer Festival, offers snapshots of domesticity and explores the idea of ‘home’ which is both universal and unique to each of us. This group exhibition explores the domestic in contemporary painting, photography, and photographic installation.

Camogie underage training

St Vincent’s Camogie club’s underage training times are as follows:

  • Mondays at 5pm — five and six-year-olds;
  • Wednesdays at 6pm — seven, eight, and nine-year-olds;
  • Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm on the all-weather pitch — 10, 11 and 12 year olds.

Players are asked to contribute €2 per session.
