The president of Cork Chamber has said that Cork stands at a “unique juncture” poised to lead Ireland into a future that balances economic growth, sustainability and cultural vibrancy.

At the Cork Chamber Annual Dinner, which was hosted last night in City Hall, Rob Horgan called for further measures to be taken to tackle issues across Cork, including housing, water infrastructure, childcare, and transport, and touched on the importance of funding efforts for off-shore energy projects.

“As we enter a new term of government, we look forward to what change and growth can be achieved in the next five years,” said Mr Horgan.

At “our fingertips”, he said, “is the opportunity for Cork Harbour to be Ireland’s first energy park”.

The need to deliver on infrastructural projects, must, he added, be coupled with investment “in the soul and character of our region”.

“Safe, green, accessible and vibrant spaces enhance quality of life, attract talent and importantly, they fuel economic growth,” Mr Horgan said.

“Cork is more than just a place to live and work, it is a city of opportunity, connection and belonging.

“We have the talent, the ambition and the drive to create a thriving future — but it requires strong leadership, collaboration and an unwavering determination to deliver.”

The event, sponsored by AIB, saw more than 1,000 guests come together to celebrate Cork’s leadership in shaping a sustainable, innovative and inclusive business environment, with Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine honoured as the Overall Winner of the Cork Company of the Year Awards 2025.

Other businesses honoured at the awards, which were sponsored by Vodafone and media partner the Irish Examiner, include Ground Wellbeing, recognised as the emerging category winner; National Beauty Distribution, recognised as the SME category winner; and Keohane Seafoods, recognised as the large category winner.

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine were also recognised in the international category.

A keynote address was also delivered by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who acknowledged the great value in the collaboration among Cork’s business community.

Speaking ahead of the event he said the gathering “is a testament to the fortitude and collaborative spirit that exists in Cork’s business community”.
