Two young Cork artists and the residents of a West Cork nursing home have won awards in this year’s National Credit Union Art competition with works which “captured the small but meaningful moments that bring happiness to life”.

The contest’s grand final was held in Croke Park this week.

Seán Sutton from Clonakilty and Dunmanway Credit Union triumphed in the age 7 and under category, while Nicholas Kearney, representing Mitchelstown Credit Union, was also honoured in the age 7 and under category.

Additionally, the artists of the Care Choice Nursing Home, affiliated with Clonakilty and Dunmanway Credit Union, won the group award.

The theme for this year’s competition ‘The Joys of Life’ attracted over 30,000 entries and, according to the contest organisers, the Cork winners have brought great pride to their communities and credit unions.

The grand final, held at Croke Park, celebrated these achievements alongside other national winners. Irish League of Credit Union President Martin Busch expressed his admiration for the winners.

“The creativity and imagination shown by participants this year are nothing short of extraordinary.

“These young artists have brought this year’s theme to life in ways that inspire and move us all, reminding us of the profound beauty in everyday moments,” said Mr Busch.

“Through their artwork, these talented individuals have captured the very essence of life’s greatest joys.

“Their creations remind us of the importance of appreciating the little things that make life special.

“A huge congratulations to our winners and every entrant who participated in making this competition a true celebration of creativity and community.”

The ILCU is the largest credit union representative body on the island of Ireland. Founded in 1960, it currently has an affiliated membership of more than 250 credit unions across the island of Ireland.
