Cork Camogie star and member of last year’s All-Ireland winning team, Emma Flanagan was on hand to cut the ribbon on the new branch of Macroom Credit Union for the reopening of its premises in Coachford at the weekend.

Three local primary schools had particular reason to welcome the reopening, as Macroom Credit Union presented a cheque for €500 each to representatives of Aghabullogue, Rylane and Coachford National Schools to demonstrate its “continued dedication to supporting the local community”.

The upgraded Coachford branch boasts enhanced facilities and services, and now features a dedicated meeting room for private consultations with loan officers and advisors.

The branch has also introduced extended hours, providing greater flexibility for its members.

It will now open from 9.30am to 4.00pm every Friday, as well as retaining its existing Thursday opening hours from 4pm to 7pm.

The credit union said these extended hours will allow members to access a full suite of services, including personal loans, car loans, as well as mortgages, member current accounts, and debit cards.

Members also have 24/7 banking access through the Macroom Credit Union mobile app.

Macroom Credit Union CEO Seamus Hogan said the body had “stood as a pillar of financial support and community development in County Cork, dedicated to serving our local community”.

“The relaunch of the Coachford branch reaffirms our commitment to providing excellent financial services, while fostering local growth and development,” he said.

Macroom Credit Union has grown from humble beginnings as it had originally operated in a rented room of a local hotel in 1970.

The credit union secured its own premises on Main Street, Macroom in 1972, and remained there until moving to the present custom-built head office at Railway View in 1997.
