Water supply restored to properties in Cork city suburb following burst main

Uisce Éireann said that it was necessary to turn off the water in some areas while crews completed necessary repair works.
Uisce Éireann has repaired a major burst in a Cork city suburb, restoring water supply to up to 2,000 impacted properties.
The large burst, which affected homes on the South Douglas Road and surrounding areas, saw water crews on-site from Monday evening working to restore normal supply customers impacted by the unplanned outage.
Water operations lead for Uisce Éireann, James Goulding, said that in order to address the “significant burst”, it was necessary to turn off the water in some areas while crews completed necessary repair works.
“We do understand this was an inconvenience and we sincerely thank our customers for their patience,” he said.
Mr Goulding further stated that the unplanned outage may cause discolouration in supply for a period of time.
If the problem persists, he advised customers to phone the Uisce Éireann helpline on 1800 278 278.
“We continue to advise customers not to drink discoloured water and to contact us directly with any reports of discolouration to help us manage the response in real time and to prioritise reactive works. On receipt of such calls, we then undertake flushing in the affected region,” he said.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann will receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages that will last for more than four hours.
Uisce Éireann has also launched a free text service, providing real-time updates for local issues.
Customers can register as a vulnerable person or sign up to the text service with their Eircode and mobile number via the Uisce Éireann website.
