Marie Gleeson, a former senior officer in the Irish navy, commanded the LÉ Aoife and completed UN service in Chad.

Kinsale and District Lions Club is set to host a talk by one of the Irish naval service’s first female officers at an event benefitting the UCC Foundation’s research into infant mortality.

The event, entitled ‘Inspirational Leadership’, will feature Marie Gleeson, a former Irish navy ships captain.

Cormac Fitzgerald, the president of Kinsale and District Lions Club, said the event would inspire audiences of all ages with lessons in leadership, resilience, and purpose while supporting an essential cause.

“This is an unmissable opportunity to gain valuable insights from one of Ireland’s most inspiring leaders while supporting a critical healthcare cause,” he said.

“The event is suitable for all ages, making it a fantastic evening for families, businesses, and community groups alike.”

The event will take place on Thursday, February 20, at 7.45pm, in the Shane Fitzsimons Theatre in Kinsale Community School.

Tickets are €25 per person and are available online at kinsalelionsonline.com.
