Parts of Cork city’s Northside may suffer water supply disruptions on Monday and Tuesday, Uisce Éireann has warned.

The water utility company said that two separate rounds of works are scheduled to be carried on on Monday morning and lunchtime and on Tuesday afternoon.

In both cases, the works are part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing national leaks reduction programme, and the company has cautioned that both could cause some limited disruptions to local water supplies.

The first round of works, which will entail hydrant installation, is scheduled to be carried out from 9am until 1pm on Monday, January 6, and may cause supply disruptions to Mulberry Heights in Farranree and to the surrounding areas.

To access updates on these works, the public is advised to visit the Uisce Éireann website, water.ie, and enter in the search bar the reference CCI00086888.

The second round of works, described as essential maintenance, is due to be caried out from 2pm until 6pm on Tuesday, January 7, and may cause supply disruptions to The Priory, Redemption Road, and surrounding areas.

Those seeking to access updates on these works are advised to use the reference CCI00086921 on water.ie.

A separate traffic management plan will be in place for the duration of each set of works.

In both cases, Uisce Éireann said it recommended that two to three hours be allowed after the estimated restoration time for water supply to fully return.

These works are unrelated to ongoing issues with water discolouration, which have been an intermittent and widespread problem in Cork city since the then Irish Water opened its €40m Lee Road water treatment plant in July, 2022.

Over Christmas, a number of families on the Northside complained about discoloured water.

Uisce Éireann said a number of burst water mains in the city over Christmas period "may have led to short term discolouration for some households".
