Cork has welcomed its newest citizen into the world for 2025 at Cork University Maternity Hospital.

The New Year was only a few minutes old when the first baby of 2025 arrived in CUMH.

At 12:20am on January 1 2025, a baby boy named Rowan was born. He weighed in at 3.51kg.

Baby boy Rowan was born to parents Shannon Gibson and David O'Callaghan from Cork city.

Nationally the first newborn baby of 2025 arrived at just 19 seconds past midnight.

Baby Bradley was born to delighted parents Eve Colley and Eric Tyrell from Dublin at the National Maternity Hospital.

At the Rotunda Hospital, Martha Gilroy-Kelly and her partner Jack Byrne welcomed a baby boy Theodore at nine minutes past midnight.

In Co Kerry, baby Féile was born at home to parents Andrea Thornton and Eoin Murphy at 5.41am, weighing 8lb 3oz, with the assistance of midwives Sinead Murphy and Kirsty Hawthorn from University Hospital Kerry.
