Largely dry and cloudy week ahead, but temperatures to drop in the New Year

Temperatures in Cork city are expected to drop down significantly from Friday 3 January, the national forecaster has predicted.

The week ahead is set to be cloudy with only scattered showers, and average temperatures of around 10 degrees, before it gets significantly colder this day next week.

According to Met Éireann, today will be cloudy with showers this afternoon and again from 7pm to 10pm in Cork city, and the weekend will be largely dry but cloudy as well as quite windy, with some sunshine on Sunday afternoon.

The national forecaster predicts Monday will be dry and cloudy also, as will Tuesday with the exception of some showers early in the morning.

New Year’s Day on Wednesday is to be mostly rainy, with showers throughout the day, heaviest at around lunchtime, though it is set to be dry again by evening and continue to be dry but cloudy on Thursday.

From next Friday January 3 onwards, temperatures are set to drop drastically to 4 degrees, and possibly go as low as freezing over the weekend for a cold start to 2025.
