Following a recent call out to club supporters for donations, the Cork City Women’s Team have donated Christmas gifts to Cuanlee Refuge.

The team used their social media channels to ask supporters of the club to bring gifts to the Cork City FC grounds at Turner’s Cross and Bishopstown.

Items donated include toys, clothes, board games and selection boxes.

Cuanlee Refuge provides safe and secure crisis accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

The organisation helps women who wish to move on and live independently, free from violence.

Since opening its doors in March 1978, Cuanlee has provided support, information and shelter 365 days of the year.

Commenting on the club donation to Cuanlee Refuge, Cork City FC Women’s first team player Shaunagh McCarthy said: “When families arrive there, many times they come with very little so we wanted to have some gifts for them, especially at this time of the year.

“We are so thankful to all who contributed and donated. We really appreciate it.

“It’s amazing the difference we can make working together. We are delighted with the response to the call out for donations to Cuanlee Refuge.”

Mary Cullinane, assistant manager of Cuanlee Refuge expressed her for the donation, on behalf of everyone at the refuge.

“Cuanlee Refuge would like to express their gratitude for the generous donation made by Cork City FC Women’s Team, assisted by the public,” she said.

“Cuanlee appreciates the efforts made to gather the donations, especially at this time of year, as we approach Christmas.”
