Families around the city and county are making preparations for viewing the Late Late Toy Show, which airs tonight from 9.35pm on RTÉ One.

To add to the excitement, the theme of this year’s show has been revealed as Christmas movie favourite Home Alone.

"Make sure you’re not on a flight to Paris shouting ‘Kevin!’ this Friday night and join Patrick Kielty and a host of little Kevin McCallisters and Wet Bandits as they come together to protect the McCallister home!" programme makers said today.

"In true ‘I made my family disappear’ style, there’ll be plenty of mischief with staircase sliding, snowball throwing, Wicked performances, and lots of rocking around the Christmas tree.

"This year’s Late Late Toy Show, with all 250 toy testers and performers, promises to be a night of surprises that will warm your heart and take you out of this world making wishes come true."

There are a number of young people from Cork taking part in tonight's extravaganza, including The Chocolate Swappers String Quartet.

The four young musicians from near Macroom were given a big send-off ahead of their performance tonight on the Toy Show.

Leila Foley, Conan Clery, and Sophia Corkery from Terelton National School, along with Áine Lucey from St Mary’s, Macroom, make up The Chocolate Swappers String Quartet.

The group have been playing together since 2021 and are representing the Cork ETB school of music and their teachers there Lisa O’Brien and Yvonne McCarthy.

Pupils from Terelton NS showed support by hosting a send-off for them on Wednesday as they prepared to travel to Dublin for the final days of rehearsals before their big performance tonight.

Therese Corkery, mother of one of the performers, told The Echo: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them; everybody will be tuning in at home to watch, with great excitement.”

Traditionally aired on the last Friday of November, this year’s show is a week later and will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 9.35pm, with Patrick Kielty returning for his second year as host.
