Popular East Cork restaurant to close its doors this month

Roastie owners Andrew Faltyn and Marcin Moneta said that due to the 'ongoing challenges facing the hospitality sector" they have decided to close the restaurant. 

The owners of the popular Roastie Restaurant in Midleton have announced it is to close its doors this month month due to what they said was the "ever increasing costs" of doing business.

The restaurant, renowned for its locally sourced ingredients and varied vegetarian options, will close after the final service on Sunday, December 15.

In a post on Facebook owners Andrew Faltyn and Marcin Moneta wrote “We have a tough announcement to make". 

"Due to the ongoing challenges facing the hospitality sector, we have made a very tough decision to close Roastie Restaurant in Midleton.” 

They explained: “We opened Roastie Restaurant in Midleton with the view of creating a unique dining destination.

“The core of our business was focused on family. When you, our loyal customers entered our premises we wanted you to feel welcome and to leave with a smile and a full belly.

“We are a family run business and every member of staff who has worked with us since opening has felt like a member of our little family here at Roastie.

“We have been blessed to work side by side with some amazing local producers to bring our guests the best food from East Cork.” 

Floods

However, since opening, they explained that they have survived “a lockdown and one of the worst floods to hit Midleton in decades.” 

Midleton has seen a very high rate of restaurant closures since the flood, including Sage, La Trattoria and Church Lane, while Farmgate relocated to Lismore in Waterford.

Praising their loyal customers and guests, the Roastie owners said: “Most weeks all our tables are full in the restaurant but with the ever increasing costs it has become impossible to run a profitable restaurant.

“We have held on as long as possible, hoping something might change but now we feel it’s time to call it a day.” 

Noting that it had been “a tough decision to make as we have worked tirelessly to build a small family run business in Midleton”, they thanked all their staff past and present, and customers who have supported them through tough times.

“Seeing all the familiar faces pop in week after week has brought us great joy and kept us going over the past months.

“We are very sad to see Roastie Restaurant come to an end but we will now focus all our energy to building on the success of our sister business, Toastie Cafe.

“Thank you all once again from the bottom of our heart. We will miss all our Roastie family but will always remember the love and support you gave us,” they concluded.
