A recent pyjama day and bake sale, organised by Cork students and teachers, raised almost €750 for charity.

The annual fundraiser, organised by students and teachers from the Early Learning and Care Department of Morrison’s Island Campus, was part of Early Childhood Ireland’s National Pyjama Day.

The event raised €116 for the charity Sensational Kids and €626 for the Model Farm Road-based national charity Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Sensational Kids ensures that children and adolescents who have additional needs receive the vital therapeutic services they deserve to achieve their full potential, while Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind provides dogs for those who are vision impaired, as well as assistance dogs for families of children with autism.

The fundraising event, which was organised by Niamh O’Keeffe, one of the Early Learning and Care teachers on the campus, was a big success with all who attended.

Visit from guide dog Penny

Students and teachers contributed to the bake sale, and also purchased on the day, and they received a visit from retired guide dog Penny, who was accompanied by her friend Tim Murphy, a volunteer with Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Morrison’s Island Campus is part of Cork Education and Training Board (ETB) and was formerly known as the Cork College of Commerce.

The campus has approximately 1,200 students, attending a wide variety of courses on a full-time and part-time basis, and it also hosts night classes.

Among the courses available on the campus are educational programmes on business, administration, healthcare, nursing, early learning and care, computer science, and NTO (National Tertiary Office) courses and apprenticeships.

Early Childhood Ireland’s National Pyjama Day this year celebrated its 21st birthday, and has raised over €4.3million to date for projects and charities that support children.
