A motorist was arrested in Cork for the second time this month for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Gardaí in Mitchelstown were on patrol in an unmarked car along the M8 near Watergrasshill yesterday evening when they were dangerously overtaken by another motorist.

When Gardaí prompted the driver to pull in, he took off at over 200km/h while weaving in and out of traffic.

The driver was eventually stopped and it became clear to Gardaí that he was intoxicated.

It can be seen from images shared on social media that alcoholic beverages were present in the footwell of the vehicle.

The driver then failed a road side breath test, and was subsequently arrested.

When the driver was brought back to the station, he was found to be almost twice the legal limit.

It was further discovered that this was the second time this month that this driver was detected driving while intoxicated in this car, and he was on bail.

The driver is now before the courts for both occasions.
