Cork people are being invited to take part in a Christmas charity fundraiser this month.

The annual Christmas Cracker Cycle, organised by Marymount Hospice, will take place on November 30, with all funds raised going towards supporting the vital services delivered to families all over Cork by Marymount Hospice.

Now in its 15th year, the event has been endorsed by three-time Olympian and two-time World and European Champion, Sanita Puspure.

Ms Puspure, alongside her 93-year-old neighbour and long-standing friend of Marymount Hospice, Jack Callanan, recently launched the fundraising event at a special reception at the charity’s facility on the Curraheen Rd.

This year, participants have the option of choosing between two routes of varying length; a 60km Mini Cracker, or an 80km Maxi Cracker; with prizes for best club and best costume also on offer.

On the day, cyclists will be greeted with refreshments before they set off and welcomed back to Marymount Hospice with a feast of hot soup, sandwiches, and festive treats.

There will also be motorcycle marshals and support vehicles along the routes, ensuring a well-signposted and safe event for all participants.

Marymount’s goal is to raise €3.5 million to continue to provide the highest standard of essential services to those who need it and their families.

While there is no fee to participate, the charity asks that all interested parties make a voluntary donation to the events’ online fundraising page.
