The Kinsale and District Lions Club has officially launched their annual Christmas Toy Appeal.

Following the success of last year’s appeal, club members and volunteers are inviting the public to once again take part in the heartwarming tradition.

Last year, children across Cork were visited by members of the club alongside Santa Claus and his special helpers at locations including Cork University Hospital, The Mercy University Hospital, South Infirmary - Victoria University Hospital, Edel House and Heather House.

This year’s donations will be again delivered to disadvantaged and sick children via special convoy to Cork University Hospital and CUH Charity, as well as other local charities across Cork.

With support from members of An Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces, Cork City Fire Service, the Civil Defence, the Coastguard, lions’ club volunteers and the HSE ambulance service, Santa will return to spread some festive cheer, accompanied by talented musicians Amanda Neri and the Army Band, ensuring every child feels the warmth and magic this Christmas.

While children of all ages will be visited by the club over the festive season, donations of new toys only can be made for age-specific children by filling a box or bag with unwrapped suitable gifts for that preferred age range.

For small and younger children, donations may include soft teddies, dolls, board games, art sets, sporting equipment, Lego, puzzles and books.

For older children and teens, recommended donations may include toiletries, cosmetics, vanity bags, sporting equipment, books and clothes.

A spokesperson for the Kinsale and District Lions Club said: “The Toy Appeal is growing year on year and the kindness of people giving gifts is lovely to see. The members and volunteers will be supporting all local charities this Christmas supporting the local community.

“Your generosity can light up a child’s Christmas - let’s come together as a community to spread joy this holiday season.”

In addition to their Toy Appeal, the Kinsale and District Lions Club also have several other events and campaigns taking place this December including a Christmas Food Appeal, a Special Tree of Remembrance, and a Christmas Day Swim.

Toy donations can be dropped to Fitzgerald and Partners Chartered Accountants at no. 9 Pearse St at Kinsale town centre until December 13.
