The development on the Kilmoney Road in Carrigaline will incorporate 202 apartments in two blocks and 22 duplex/townhouse units. 

An application for a major housing development of 200 apartments and 20 houses for Carrigaline has been approved by An Bord Pleanála, The Echo has learned.

The development, totalling 224 units, is to be located on the Kilmoney Road and includes 202 apartments in two blocks, ranging in height from six to seven storeys, as well as 22 duplex/townhouse units.

The project also includes a creche and amenities, such as a play area, a kickabout area, an activity trail/greenway alongside a courtyard, and three retail units. Landscaping is included in the proposal.

The company behind the development is named in the documents (submitted to An Bórd Pleanála) as Resides Investment Ltd, a Mallow-based firm.

Fine Gael councillor for the Carrigaline electoral area, Jack White, has welcomed the approval by An Bord Pleanála and said the decision set an important precedent for the future of the town.

Property ladder

“With such housing need, this is exactly the type of town-centre, sustainable development we need to give young people, single people, young couples, and families the chance to get on the property ladder,” he said.

“Naturally, Carrigaline has infrastructure issues that need continued investment, but, simultaneously, we need to give people the opportunity to have a home,” said the area councillor.

“This decision took over two years for An Bord Pleanála to make, so things may have changed for the developer in the interim, and they may choose to go ahead with this permission or, indeed, to seek another permission.

“The important point is that this sets a very positive precedent for development at scale on this site.”

In a response to a query from The Echo, a spokesman for An Bord Pleanála confirmed that the application for the Kilmoney development had been “approved with conditions”.

“However, the documents surrounding this case, such as the inspector’s report, board order, and direction, have not yet been disclosed to the public,” the spokesman said.
