Dozens of people involved in multi-agency rescue operation in Cork

Some 46 people were involved in a multi-agency operation to rescue an individual from the water in Crosshaven yesterday evening.
At 9.40pm Valencia Coast Guard activated the pagers to a report of a person in the water at the pier adjoining the lifeboat station. The casualty had fallen between two commercial vessels.
One of the first crew to arrive at the station was Kline Pennefather who heard a call to help from the pier manager, Kieran Coniry who was aboard the commercial vessel along with two Portuguese fishermen from another vessel trying to retrieve the casualty from in between the vessels.
Mr Coniry managed to get a rope around the casualty and as other lifeboat crew and the Coast Guard arrived they managed to hoist him aboard.
He was taken into the wheelhouse where Mr Pennefather administered casualty care until the paramedics arrived.
The lifeboat conveyed two paramedics the short distance to the vessel where he was checked over and declared well.
In total 46 people were involved in the rescue, including lifeboat crew members, Coast Guard, Pier staff, Fire Service and the ambulance service.
These included, Kline Pennefather, Aidan O’Connor and Alan Venner on board the vessel; boat crew, David Venner, Conor Barry, Holly Fegan and Caoimhe Foster and shore crew, Darryl Hughes, Molly Murphy, Claire Morgan and Ian Venner.
