Heavy rain is forecast for Cork this afternoon, with spot flooding possible, in what looks to be a mild and humid day.

With the day beginning cloudy with mist and drizzle, Met Éireann is forecasting rain for later this morning, and it looks set to turn heavy at times in the afternoon and evening.

The national forecaster had warned at the weekend that spot flooding was possible in parts of Cork this afternoon.

The day looks likely to stay mild and humid with highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees, in a light to moderate southeasterly wind, occasionally fresh and gusty later.

Tonight will be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain, and there will be hill and coastal mist and fog too.

The evening and night look likely to be mild and humid, with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, in a light to moderate southeasterly wind, occasionally fresh and gusty early in the night.

Wednesday morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain, and it will become drier and brighter during the afternoon, with sunny spells and just isolated showers.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light to moderate southerly winds.

Remaining cloud and rain will clear from the northeast early on Wednesday night and the rest of the night will be dry in most areas with clear spells and patches of mist and fog.

Expect showers in some western and southern areas, some heavy, with lowest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes.

Thursday should be mild with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of them heavy with a chance of thunder.

The showers will become isolated by evening, with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in light to moderate southerly or westerly breezes.

Thursday night will be mostly dry with clear spells early on Thursday night, however cloud and outbreaks of rain will move into the west and will spread eastwards across the country overnight. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds developing.

It looks set to be wet and breezy on Friday morning and afternoon as rain tracks eastwards across the country, turning heavy at times. A clearance to sunny spells and isolated showers in the west later in the afternoon will extend to all areas in the evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds, easing as the rain clears.

Friday night will be mostly dry with clear skies but there will be a few showers in the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in a light to moderate southerly breeze.

The weekend currently looks to be unsettled, with showers possible on Saturday and daytime temperatures a little cooler than recent days with highs of 11 to 14 degrees, in a light to moderate south to southwest wind.

Saturday night and Sunday look to have wind and windy periods.
