Oxfam Ireland has said that Cork communities offered huge support for sustainable fashion during their ‘Second Hand September’ campaign.

The campaign, now in it’s sixth year, was aimed at promoting sustainable fashion, reducing waste, and raising vital funds for life-changing global humanitarian work, and saw Cork’s own Siobhán McSweeney, famed for her role in Derry Girls, as the national face.

Throughout the campaign, Oxfam shops across the country experienced an overwhelming response from shoppers, with Cook Street in Cork city marked by the organisation as a notable location for its success.

Director of Trading at Oxfam Ireland, Trevor Anderson said: “We are truly grateful to the people of Cork for the support we’ve received during our sixth Second Hand September.

“Across the country, people have come together to shop sustainably, donate generously, and promote the importance of reusing and recycling clothing.

“Every item purchased or donated has made a difference, not only by reducing waste but by helping to fund Oxfam’s work around the world.

“We couldn’t have done this without the commitment of our volunteers, staff, and supporters at Oxfam Cook Street - the impact of your shopping is felt far beyond our borders.”

Second Hand September also demonstrated the power of collective action, with schools, businesses, and individuals across Ireland participating in organised clothing swaps, fundraising events, and donation drives.

The organisation is continuing to encourage the people of Cork to shop second-hand, donate items, and to support Oxfam on Cook Street.
