Guest speakers to deliver series of sports seminars at MTU

A guest speaker seminar series covering all things sport has been launched by Munster Technological University (MTU), with the support of the MTU Lions Athletics Club and Cork Sports Partnership.

The MTU Sports Seminar Series will explore a range of sports-related themes, with guest speakers offering expert insights from their experiences in the high-performance sports arena.

Topics covered will range from nutrition and optimum training environments to injury prevention and mental health .

Guests include Evan Lynch, a dietitian based in Tipperary who specialises in sports nutrition and weight management; Jessie Barr, athlete and performance psychologist at the Sport Ireland Institute; Eoin Everard, a sub-four-minute miler, sub-14-minute 5K, sub-30-minute 10K runner, and chartered physiotherapist; Ed Coughlan, a skill acquisition specialist with a PhD from the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Science at Liverpool John Moores University; Joe O’Connor, an endurance coach and lecturer in exercise physiology and performance nutrition at MTU; and Hayley Harrison, a coach education officer at Sport Ireland Coaching.

Six seminars will be delivered by the guest speakers. Ms Lynch will host a seminar on sports nutrition for athletes on October 16, Ms Barr will host a seminar on mental health in sport on November 13, and Mr Everard will host a seminar on training and injury prevention on December 4. Mr Coughlan will speak about developing world-class training environments on January 15, 2025, Mr O’Connor will host a seminar on implementing real-world strength and conditioning on February 12, and Ms Harrison will offer insights on planning training and the coach-athlete relationship on March 12.
