The annual programme of events has been announced for the 19th edition of Culture Night, taking place across Cork city next month.

Culture Night, or Oíche Chultúir, taking place on September 20, is an annual celebration of Cork’s culture, creativity, and arts, and seeks to actively promote the belief that our rich and varied culture is alive, treasured, and nurtured in people’s lives.

On the night, more than 80 events will take place across several Cork city venues, with doors remaining open later than usual to facilitate the free special and unique events that are specifically programmed for this year’s festivities.

“Cork has a rich and varied culture which we can celebrate with pride on Culture Night,” said Green Party councillor Dan Boyle, Lord Mayor of Cork.

“With about 80 venues there is no end of choice, with a variety of events to be enjoyed, free for all the family.

“The only downside is we can’t be everywhere at once.

“Enjoy Cork’s culture, be a part of it.”

With a diverse line-up of events, from musical performances to visual art displays, highlights of this year’s Culture Night include something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

UCC

This year, for this first time, UCC will present a cohesive series of events in several locations, both indoors and outdoors, situated on the main campus and in the nearby Granary Theatre and the Confucius Centre.

Activities at UCC will include tours, VR demos, theatre workshops, and art classes, suitable for people of all ages to attend.

Cork City Library will also host a fantastic array of events, including choral performances from Voiceworks, readings from Cork Stories, and performances from Irene Kelleher, Jimmy Crowley, and Eve Telford, who will be singing a selection of Cork songs.

Culture Night attendees will also have the chance to attend The Everyman for an evening with leading drag haus and pure Cork legends Mockie Ah!, who will bring camp culture to MacCurtain St in a flurry of colour and comedy.

Other musical events and activities will see visitors join Cork’s world-famous child performers The Kabin Studio for music jams, workshops, and a seisúin ceol suitable for children of all ages.

City Hall

Cork City Council will also offer a range of events at City Hall, including an exhibition about six-a-side football and chamber music in the concert hall.

Further events will take place in locations across the city including Cork Opera House, Farranree Community Centre, Elizabeth Fort, the English Market, Rising Sons Brewery, Crawford Art Gallery, Nano Nagle Place, and Munster Technological University.

While most events hosted on Culture Night will be free of charge, some events will require booking in advance.

Culture Night is delivered by Cork City Council in partnership with the Arts Council.
