A public meeting will be held next week to address growing concerns surrounding the Rosscarbery waste water treatment plant and recent no-swim notices issued across popular beaches in Cork.

The Warren beach and Owenahincha beach both currently have do not swim notices in place due to water quality concerns, with microbilogical tests being carried out this week.

The two notices were issued by Cork County Council, asking locals to avoid swimming or bathing in the waters at these locations due to pollution and decreased water quality.

Fianna Fáil Cork South West TD Christopher O’Sullivan said that local residents have voiced strong concerns that the waste water treatment plant is now failing, and are concerned about Uisce Éireann’s response.

Mr O’Sullivan added: “The idea of the meeting is to compile all of this evidence.

“And then to have a full group — representing business, parents, families, and locals — to meet Uisce Éireann on another date.”

The meeting is set to take place on Thursday, August 22, at the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery, at 7pm.
