Fans of Cork Republic of Ireland soccer stars Denise O’Sullivan and Megan Connolly will be able to follow their heroes as they attempt to secure a place in next year’s Uefa Women’s European Championship finals in Switzerland. RTÉ has secured the rights to broadcast the competition until the end of 2025, it has been announced.

The exclusive coverage of the Women’s Euro 2025 competition has been acquired by the national broadcaster after a landmark agreement between the European Broadcast Union and Uefa, a deal that will ensure the entire tournament will be covered live on RTÉ television.

Heart

The group head of sport at RTÉ, Declan McBennett, said that the station was putting women’s sport at the heart of its coverage and instanced the Women’s Euros in 2022 and the World Cup, last year in Australia, as examples.

“We are delighted that every game from Euro 2025 will be carried by RTÉ and we desperately hope our national team carve their own path to Switzerland via the playoffs,” said Mr McBennett.

The Republic of Ireland women’s team will next be in action in a playoff game against Georgia.

Should they win that, they will face either Wales or Slovakia over two legs to determine who qualifies for the finals next year.

The Republic of Ireland men’s team will resume their European Nations League qualification campaign with a home tie against England. That will be on September 7, one of a series of games to be covered on RTÉ in the coming months, culminating in the return fixture against England in November.
