The former managing director of Beamish & Crawford has been appointed as the chairman of Mayo-based company Mellett.

Alf Smiddy, who acted as the chairman and managing director of Beamish & Crawford plc for over 12 years is now to act as chair of the data centre sector company

The Claremorris headquartered firm provides electrical contracting services for the data centre sector and currently employs 180.

This appointment of Mr Smiddy is aimed at underscoring Mellett’s commitment to growth in delivering electrical contracting services for data centres across Ireland and Europe.

Following the appointment of Mr Smiddy, Mellett’s primary focus is on expanding its operations in Ireland and into more countries in Europe, where the company is currently involved in the supporting leading-edge projects.

The company specialises in providing top-tier electrical contracting services, primarily for data centres, operating in Ireland, Denmark, and Sweden.

Mellett has completed projects for several leading clients, delivering for the world’s leading hyperscale and colocation data centre companies.

Mellett excels in managing electrical contracts from design to handover, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption to client operations.

Mr Smiddy is a chartered accountant who trained with PwC. As well as his role within Beamish & Crawford, he sat on the board of its parent company, Scottish & Newcastle (UK) Ltd.

He is a member of the National Executive Council of IBEC, director of Cork Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Cork Local Government Committee and served on the board of Cork Airport Authority.

He is a fellow of the Irish Marketing Institute and a Commerce graduate from University College Cork (UCC), with a Masters in Executive Leadership from Boston College and the University of Ulster.
