Valentia Coast Guard received a call from the National Ambulance Service, just after 2.15pm on Tuesday, seeking assistance in getting to safety a woman who had fallen on the Sugarloaf mountain, south-west of Glengarriff, on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork.

The woman, who is believed to be a 60-year-old tourist from The Netherlands, had suffered a severe fracture to her leg.

The Rescue helicopter 117 was tasked from Waterford, and the Castletownbere Coast Guard unit was also dispatched to assist.
