Cork butcher hopes to add another title picture to its collection

A well-known butcher on Shandon St in Cork City has donned the shop front with bunting and memorabilia in support of the Cork team who will face Clare in the All-Ireland Hurling Championship final.

Speaking to The Echo ahead of the final at Croke Park on Sunday, July 21, owner James Nolan highlighted the importance of the community getting together to support the Cork team.

Mr Nolan said he has “a collection of stuff down through the years” on display at the shop and said there will be a large banner on display at the top of Shandon St at the weekend.

“We will have a big banner put at the top of the street wishing the Cork team the best of luck from the Cork Business Association and Coughlan Heating and Plumbing.

“There are so many people involved. We have the Tidy Towns and the CBA and then there are other volunteers as well.

“It’s about getting people together really and it’s mighty craic. We had great craic the last time Cork won the All-Ireland.

“It gives a great buzz in the area and it’s great for the Cork team as well and it gives them a bit of a buzz going around the place too.”

Mr Nolan said that businesses have had their knocks in recent years which he described as “little nails in the coffin”.

He has also said that community spirit is still going strong amongst the business community in Cork and that moments like this when they all come together in support of their team is hugely important.
