Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following a number of incidents of criminal damage in north Cork a month ago.

GARDAÍ have appealed for witnesses following a number of incidents of criminal damage in north Cork a month ago.

The incidents saw criminal damage by fire to one residential property and what gardaí described as “attempted criminal damage” to three adjacent properties.

All four of the properties were vacant at the time.

Gardaí say the incidents occurred shortly before midnight on Sunday, April 28 in Rosehall in Mallow.

It is understood that there had been what a garda source called “misinformation, disinformation and fake news” regarding the planned use of the properties involved, however the source said that despite this, the houses had not been intended for use by international protection applicants.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incidents to contact them.

“In particular, people may have been in the areas of Rose Garden, Rosehall, Annabella, in Mallow between 11pm on April 27 and 12.30am on April 28,” a garda spokesperson said.

“Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this available to gardaí.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
