Departures from Cork Airport have increased by 31% year-on-year, while Shannon Airport departures have increased by 57% year-on-year, recent figures from travel agency Click&Go Holidays reveal.

IRISH holidaymakers are increasingly opting to fly from regional airports like Cork, where nine new routes over the last year have strengthened passenger numbers.

According to figures from travel agency Click&Go Holidays, departures from Cork Airport have increased by 31% year-on-year, while Shannon Airport departures have increased by 57% year-on-year.

Cork Airport has seen a 35% increase in sun holidays and a 26% increase in city breaks, with their top sun destinations including Lanzarote, and Amsterdam, Valencia and London proving the most popular city break options.

The convenience of flying from a local airport was one of the main reasons given for holidaymakers deciding to depart from regional airports.

This was made possible by more routes from regional airports than ever before, it said, meaning an increased choice of destinations.

The addition of five new summer routes for 2024 and four winter routes at the end of last year contributed to Cork Airport's strong growth.

Additionally, a higher capacity from regional airports has seen prices equalize so you no longer pay more to fly from your local airport.
