AN IDEA borne from the restoration of his beloved North Cork home has inspired Michael Flatley to introduce his first signature whiskey

Crafted in partnership with master blender, Noel Sweeney, and distilled at the Great Northern Distillery ‘Flatley Whiskey: The Dreamer’, a premium five-year-old whiskey is described as ‘embodying the spirit of dreams, passion, and mastery’.

The idea was brought to life when Mr Flatley began the multimillion-euro restoration of his Castlehyde Estate in Fermoy, where he created a wood-panelled whiskey room that has housed barrels of his earlier private blend for more than 25 years.

With private visits by royalty and celebrities alike, the whiskey room at Castlehyde has been host to many tastings including the first tasting of the new Irish whiskey.

Mr Flatley has signed a distribution deal with Ireland’s leading premium spirits distributor, Dalcassian Wines and Spirits, and SuperValu is already stocking the whiskey in more than 175 stores across the country.

The whiskey will be launched internationally over the next few years, with an initial release in the United States planned for later this summer.

“For me, Irish whiskey, much like Irish dance, embodies the essence of Ireland — its history, its spirit, and its ability to bring people together in celebration,” Mr Flatley said.

“Irish whiskey was a favourite of my father’s. It was through his passion that I came to appreciate its complex flavours, so, it’s a very proud moment to launch Flatley Irish Whiskey, as I know he will be smiling down on me.”

Noel Sweeney said: “I was truly honoured to work with Michael on this collaboration.

“He is one of Ireland’s most prominent and significant ambassadors, enriching our culture through his promotion of Irish dance and music on a truly global scale, and now through whiskey.”

Thrilled

Co-founders of Dalcassian, Pat Rigney and John Dillon said: “We are thrilled to bring Michael Flatley, Noel Sweeney, and their outstanding team’s exceptional whiskey to stores, pubs, hotels, and restaurants across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

“This superb spirit not only stands out on the shelves but also boasts a great taste.”

SuperValu whiskey buyer, Conor O’Flynn said: “We are delighted to offer our shoppers the new Flatley Whiskey as part of our exclusive range of Irish whiskeys.

Retailing for €45, Flatley Irish Whiskey is now available in stores, bars, and hotels throughout Ireland, and is also available online at https://www.flatleywhiskey.com.
