CORK County Council is inviting the public to have their say on the early-stage plans for the proposed design of the new Bandon River Valley Greenway route.

The greenway, which will commence from Crossbarry, will travel through Innishannon, Bandon, Clonakilty and Timoleague.

The project is at the Phase 1 Concept and Feasibility stage, which involves investigating the constraints and opportunities within the study area to examine the project’s feasibility.

Public consultation meetings will be held on the greenway in Bandon Town Hall from 2pm to 8pm on May 21 and in O’Donovan’s Hotel in Clonakilty from 2pm to 8pm on May 22.

An online consultation, housed on the project website, is also currently open to submissions and will close on June 14.

Cork County Council has appointed environmental consultants, RPS Group, to design the route. Mayor of the County of Cork, councillor Frank O’Flynn said that community input is key to ensuring this greenway aligns with the needs of residents and businesses in the area.

“Our common goal is to develop a greenway that will provide a safe, sustainable, and healthy transport option for local communities,” he said.

Fianna Fáil councillor for the Bandon-Kinsale Municipal District, Gillian Coughlan described the greenway as an “exciting prospect” for residents across the Bandon-Kinsale Municipal District, for recreational uses as well as commuting to school or work.

The project is funded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) Greenway Programme and future development of the scheme is subject to their support.
