POPULAR Galway band 'The Stunning', famous for brewing up a storm during the 1990s, will headline this year's Macroom Music Festival which is to be held in the Town Square on June 22, it has been confirmed.

The mid Cork town can rightfully claim to be the cradle of outdoor music festivals in Ireland as the Mountain Dew Festival featuring Rory Gallagher during the 1970s came before Slane, Féile and the Electric Picnic.

Now in its second year with the new festival, made possible by the N22 bypass which opened its Macroom section in December 2022, Macroom have followed up a very successful inaugural event with a line up which includes Hermitage Green and The White Horse Guitar Club.

According to Kilian Lynch of the festival organising committee, the people of Macroom got their town back last year and the music festival allowed it to be showcased to its full potential.

"Last year was such a great success," he said. "It is great to see a real buzz around Macroom town again.”

The festival, which takes place over the June 21-23 weekend, also features a music trail in local pubs and a family day.
