A 19-year-old mechanic who died in a crash on the N25 Cork-Waterford road between Midleton and Castlemartyr in Co Cork last Thursday will be laid to rest on Tuesday.

The collision between a car and a lorry which claimed the life of Jake Mulcahy of Drominane in Killeagh, Co Cork occurred at around 7.30am on April 11 near Loughaderra townland.

Mr Mulcahy was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was left shaken but physically uninjured in the incident.

A partial road closure was put in place to facilitate the work of fire brigade personnel and paramedics.

Jake was the “darling eldest son” of Justin and Margaret O’Leary and the “adored brother” of Fionn and Luke.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Joe Mulcahy and DD O’Leary and is survived by his grandmothers Edith and Eileen and his girlfriend Shauna Murphy.

He is “sadly missed’ by his loved ones, extended family, a large circle of friends and his colleagues at Tidy Mechanical Repairs.

His funeral mass will take place at 11.30am on Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Church in Mogeely, Co Cork followed by burial in the nearby All Saints Cemetery.

Meanwhile, this is the second tragedy in the area in recent days. John Barry (45) was walking on the N25 at Water Rock in Midleton on April 7th when he was hit by a car.

He is survived by his three children Elizabeth, Claire and Paul, parents Margaret and Noel and his seven siblings.
