The principal Presentation Primary School Gillian Kelly and her counterpart at Scoil Phádraig Naofa, Méabh Hennessy, have welcomed the forthcoming amalgamation of the two Bandon primary schools.

THE principals of two primary schools in Bandon have said they are looking forward to a new amalgamated future.

Presentation Primary School and Scoil Phádraig Naofa in Bandon are set to amalgamate and become a co-educational “centre of educational excellence” from September this year.

Principal of Presentation Primary School Gillian Kelly and principal of Scoil Phádraig Naofa Méabh Hennessy both welcomed the move to a co-educational future.

“Scoil Phádraig Naofa and Presentation Primary Bandon are looking forward to an amalgamated future for our schools from September, 2024,” they said in a joint statement.

“Joint sporting activities, quizzes, and joint student council initiatives are just some of the activities the children are enjoying as they prepare for our exciting future.

“Boards of management, principals and staff are working together to ensure our new school will be a centre of educational excellence for the town of Bandon.”

Transformational

Fianna Fáil councillor Gillian Coughlan, who represents the Bandon-Kinsale municipal district, welcomed the amalgamation of the schools as “a historic and transformational development for local education”.

“There is demand among parents for co-education,” she said. “That’s a trend that’s replicated right across the country.

“While I was not directly involved in the amalgamation process, I really want to commend those who were.

“I commend the courage and vision of the patrons, boards of management, principals, teachers, SNAs, staff, students and parents on taking this exciting step to create a new, co-educational school on a wonderful large campus in Bandon town.

“Brothers and sisters will now have the opportunity to attend the same school, share common experiences, and be part of one school community.

“I have no doubt that the synergy of students, teachers, supports, and facilities will provide even more exciting opportunities for the pupils.”

"With a growing population, Bandon schools will be well-placed to provide an excellent education to the children of the area. I commit my full support to this venture and wish all involved the very best for the future.”
