Cork Airport expects over 50,000 passengers to pass through the airport over St Patrick’s bank holiday weekend.

Friday is expected to be the busiest day for arrivals and departures at the airport.

Over the coming days, Cork Airport will play host to a feast of traditional Irish music and dance as local and regional music groups take to the specially decorated St Patrick’s weekend stage to entertain departing and arriving passengers.

To cater to increased demand for Cheltenham Racing Festival revellers, both Ryanair and Aer Lingus Regional will operate additional services to Birmingham and Bristol respectively between now and Friday.

Managing Director at Cork Airport, Niall MacCarthy, said: “Our passenger numbers have grown 20% in the year-to-date, versus the same period last year. The message about the friendliness and ease of Cork Airport is spreading further afield and we are working to make this weekend a friendly, safe, smooth, and welcoming weekend at Cork Airport.

“We have a great asset in our traditional music and dance, which is a unique part of our culture and sometimes we can take that for granted.

This St Patrick’s weekend, we will be teaming up with our friends in Comhaltas, the John Lonergan Academy of Irish Dancing, soloist Pat Kelleher, Music Generation Laois Harp Ensemble to ensure that our national music and dance are on show to welcome visitors and locals alike home to Ireland.

Cork Airport’s 2024 Summer Schedule will also commence at the end of this month with 48 routes to destinations across the UK, Spain, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, and Greece.

Seven scheduled airlines will operate services from Cork Airport in 2024 including Ryanair, Aer Lingus, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France, Lufthansa, SWISS International Air Lines, and Emerald Airlines (operating under the Aer Lingus Regional brand). TUI will also operate charter services to popular sun destinations.
