The Cork Palestine Solidarity Campaign (CPSC) is set to hold another rally for Palestine in Cork city centre today.
The demonstration marks the 21st rally by CPSC in Cork since Israel’s war on Gaza commenced in early October.
CPSC co-chairman Martin Shiel condemned the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) for the deaths of 112 people in Gaza on Thursday, where it is claimed the IDF opened fire on crowds of Palestinians at a food-delivery point.
“Desperate Palestinians in the besieged north of Gaza had been starved of food deliveries by the IDF for more than a week,” he said.
“When it was finally permitted, the food delivery became a scene of slaughter and death. The killing cannot be allowed to continue. We await condemnation of this slaughter by our Government and we demand that the Government work much harder with those trying to stop the war.
“It’s also way past time for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and for an end to trade with Israel.”
Workers’ Party leader and councillor for the Cork North East ward Ted Tynan condemned the killing of civilians who were trying to collect food aid in Gaza.
“More than 30,000 Palestinians, including over 13,000 children, have been killed since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza,” he added.
Mr Shiel called on people to join the march and rally today “to express their outrage at the escalating carnage in Gaza”. It will commence at 1pm at Grand Parade.
