Pest controller reporting rise in rat-related callouts in Cork 

Pest controller Rentokil is urging home and business owners to be mindful of the presence of rats in their premises after an increase in rat-related callouts was recorded. 

The company said it witnessed a substantial rise of 50% in rat callouts in January 2024 in Cork when compared to the same period last year.

It said that rats are a persistent pest threat all year round and can cause extensive damage to both residential and commercial properties. 

The northwest region and Dublin also witnessed increases during this period, with an increase of 33% and 32%, respectively, in rat-related callouts in January 2024 compared to January 2023.

Colm Moore, Area Technical Manager for Rentokil said: “Rentokil is encouraging home and business owners to be mindful of the presence of rats in their premises after an increase in rat callouts was observed in the region.

“Members of the public can find out more about the signs of a rat infestation as well as how to discourage their presence by visiting the Rentokil website. 

"Both homeowners and businesses must remain vigilant against the threat posed by rats," he said.

Rentokil said that recognising the signs of rat activity, such as droppings and scratching noises, is key to early detection and prevention.
