Cork-Kerry Community Healthcare is hosting a free Community Health and Wellbeing Day in Bantry this Valentine’s Day, from 10.30am to 1pm.

The event, at the Westlodge Hotel, brings the elderly community and their families together with voluntary and primary care service providers to promote enhanced physical, social, and cognitive wellbeing.

Talks and mini-taster sessions are planned, including chair yoga, keeping active as we age, and safety in the home, as well as a performance from the local community choir.

Speaking ahead of the event, Claire Hurley, health promotion and improvement, Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, said: “These community days are always buzzing, we love seeing so many people, not only catching up with one another socially, but also accessing loads of really useful information, all in one place.”

Ger Reaney, co-chair of Age Friendly Bantry, added:

“Age Friendly Bantry is delighted to be part of this community event, which will help people be more aware of, and connect with, the wide range of groups and activities which are helping us improve our health and wellbeing.”

Groups such as Social Prescribing, Cork Sports Partnership, Citizens Information Service, Alone, Cork College of FET Bantry, Bridge Street Community Café, Healthy Age Friendly Homes, Singing for the Brain and Alzheimer’s Ireland will have information stands at the event.

The free community event will be hosted by Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, HSE (Cork South Community Work Department and Health Promotion and Improvement), in partnership with the Family Carer and Older Persons’ Initiative at Local Link, West Cork Development Partnership, the Four Valleys Social Club, Age Friendly Bantry, and Bantry Active Retirement Association.

Light refreshments will be provided.
