Cork man charged with robbery from Blackpool shop

A 31-year-old Cork man was arrested and charged with carrying out a robbery at a shop at Blackpool in Cork.

Detective Sergeant Kieran O’Sullivan arrested Aidan Cullinane of 2 St. Joseph’s Park, The Lough, Cork, and brought him before Cork District Court.

The detective testified that when he arrested, charged and cautioned the young man that he did not have to reply but that anything he might say could be taken down in writing and given in evidence. The accused man made no reply.

The charge stated that on January 22 at 7.40 am it is alleged that he entered Daybreak on Thomas Davis Street, Blackpool, and carried out a robbery of €220 from the woman who was behind the counter at the premises.

Sergeant Pat Lyons said there was a state objection to bail being granted to the defendant and that Det. Sgt. O’Sullivan would give evidence on the grounds for the objection.

Frank Buttimer, defence solicitor, said, “My client is aware of the grounds for objection. There is consent to a remand in custody. He will advance a bail application next Thursday.” Sgt. Lyons said directions were awaited from the Director of Public Prosecutions on the charge.

Judge Mary Dorgan remanded the accused in custody until February 1 to appear by video link from prison.

So far, no evidence has been given as to the nature of the alleged crime committed on Monday morning.
