Drag stars to cause a monthly scene at Cork rock venue

Drag artists from Cork and further afield are preparing to cause a monthly scene at a new venue for alternative lifestyle events, which is to host its first such event on Friday next, January 26.

One of the city’s premier rock venues, Fred Zeppelins off the South Mall, will play host to ‘Making A Scene’ which on the last Friday of each month of 2024 will be offering the audience to join the cast in bringing back a taste of 2002’s emo and scene with rock, metal and punk music. And not to mention a “fashion sense which screams it was never a phase”.

An all-star cast has been lined up to make the first Make A Scene a memorable one as Boo Boo Oopsie, also known as the Wolf of Paul Street, will lead a cast of drag stars which includes Angel Reign, Abra Kedavre, Corpse Rhyde, Richard Joke, Heist Homicide, Noir Cauchemar, and Billie Mistique.

A feast of “big hair, legs for days” and titanic amounts of black eye-liner is promised.

The new event looks set to be pencilled in to the diaries of Leeside fun-lovers and Making A Scene will be building on the alternative drag nights initiated last year by house queen Boo Boo Oopsie and her kooky performer colleagues Angel Reign, Abra Kedavre, and Corpse Rhyde. The alternative drag nights also featured local, national, and international guests and bigger and better events are promised for the coming year by Making A Scene producer Boo Boo Oopsie.

“2024 is the year of the icons and I am bringing them to you! We have iconic Cork talent booked, as well as bringing performers from around the country, and we even have some surprise crossover events planned with other Irish shows,” they said.

Angel Reign feels Fred Zeppelins will be a good venue for the night.

“Drag has always been punk, it has always been rebellious and it will always speak up — that’s what we bring to the stage and that’s what we are inviting you to come and be a part of with us.”
