More than €34,000 has been raised by nearly 5,000 donors for the family of a Cork man who passed away unexpectedly last month.

Jamie Wool died suddenly during a charity game at Mayfield United on St Stephen's Day.

His death shocked the entire community on the northside of the city.

Speaking to the Echo, Jamie O’Donovan from the Mayfield GAA said that Jamie was very well known in many circles for his generosity and kindness.

"He was extremely charismatic, everyone wanted to be in his company.

“He would always go out of his way to bring strangers into the group or company he was keeping at that time.”

Mr O’Donovan said Jamie was a very active member in the community, “especially Mayfield GAA and Mayfield United, where he always gave his time so generously, whether it be coaching or doing electrical work.”

He explained that Jamie had his own electrical company “and was extremely proud to provide for his wife and three kids,” adding “it’s heartbreaking now that nobody can change the fact Jamie will never come through his front door again but as with every family the bills are never too far from the front door.

“We as friends of Jamie started this fundraiser with the hope of letting his loving family grieve in peace without worrying about the everyday financial burden.”

Fundraiser

A GoFundMe was set up to help raise funds to support Jamie's wife Majella and three children Lauryn, Saoirse and Jayden following his unexpected death.

The GoFundMe page reads: “Jamie was more than a friend; he was a beacon of kindness, a true gentleman who touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

“While Jamie was always so generous with time and sponsorship in the local community, his main commitment was providing for his loving wife Majella and three precious children Lauryn, Saoirse and Jayden.

“Now, as we grapple with the void left by Jamie's untimely departure, we turn to you, our extended family, and friends for support.

"In this challenging time, let's rally together to ease the burden on his grieving family.

“The funds raised through this GoFundMe page will be a lifeline for Jamie's wife and children, helping them navigate the financial challenges that lie ahead.

“Every contribution, no matter how big or small, is a step toward ensuring that Jamie's legacy lives on through the well-being of his family."

The page adds: “Whether you know Jamie as the "singing electrician," the soccer coach, the GAA supporter, from his time working in Lennoxs chipper or as the loving father he was, I’m sure his upbeat passion for life left a positive impression on you, as he did with everyone who knew him.

“Together, let's honour the memory of this extraordinary man by providing comfort and support for his beloved family during their darkest hours."

They asked those who donate to share the campaign widely “and let Jamie's spirit of generosity and compassion continue to inspire acts of kindness,” adding “your support will make a difference and bring solace to a family in need.”
