A man is due in court this morning after gardaí seized a firearam and ammunition in Cork.
Gardaí attached to Gurranabraher Garda Station arrested two people and seized a firearm and ammunition in the Mayfield area on Friday evening.
At approximately 10.30pm, Gardaí carried out a search of a vehicle on the Lower Glanmire Road, Mayfield.
A firearm and rounds of ammunition were seized.
In a statement, gardaí said that a male (20s) and female (30s) were arrested in connection with the search and detained at Garda stations in the Cork area.
The woman was subsequently released without charge pending the preparation of a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
"The male was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. He has since been charged and is due to appear before a sitting of Cork City District Court (No. 1), on the morning of Sunday 14th January 2024."
