Some timetable changes across public transport services in Cork remain in effect, with the public encouraged to plan their journeys in advance over the long weekend.

Bus Éireann services will operate to a normal Sunday schedule on New Year's Eve tomorrow.

Services on New Year’s Day will also operate to a Sunday schedule, and a full normal timetable on Bus Éireann services will resume from January 2.

Speaking earlier this month, Bus Éireann chief executive Stephen Kent said that the Christmas and new year period is the busiest time of the year for the bus operator and encouraged those planning to travel over the festive period "to plan their journeys in advance" and check the Bus Éireann website for "up-to-date timetables and travel information".

Meanwhile, Iarnród Éireann's Cork commuter services will also operate to a Sunday service on both New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day.

Cork commuter services will finish at approximately 10pm on New Year’s Eve.

A Sunday InterCity service will operate on New Year’s Eve, with some exceptions including the cancellation of the 9pm Heuston to Cork service, while on New Year’s Day a revised timetable will be in effect. Rail travellers are urged to check times before travel.

A normal service will resume on all routes on January 2.

“Customers are reminded that pre-booking is strongly advised on Intercity services, particularly at busiest times," an Iarnród Éireann spokesperson said.
