Met Éireann issues weather warning for Cork ahead of weekend 

Met Éireann has issued a fresh weather warning for Cork ahead of the weekend. 

It follows a series of warnings in recent days including an orange wind warning on Wednesday as Storm Gerrit swept across the country. 

The forecaster has issued a yellow wind warning for the county which comes into effect at 2am on Saturday morning and will remain in place until noon. 

Met Éireann is warning that southerly winds during this time will increase to gale force and gusty. 

The warning is also in place for Kerry, Waterford and Wexford. 

A yellow thunderstorm warning is currently in place in Munster as well as Connacht and Donegal. 

Met Éireann has warned that power outages could occur in Cork today as a result. 

The warning, issued by Met Éireann this morning, is in place until 9pm.

The national forecaster said scattered thunderstorms with lightning activity is expected. There may also be some hail.

In addition to potential power outages, Met Éireann said other possible impacts of the adverse conditions could include hazardous travelling conditions and localised flooding.

The latest weather warning comes as many homes and businesses across Cork were left without power yesterday following strong winds and thunder and lightning.

More than 1,000 properties in the Carrigaline area alone were without power for a period last night, with outages also reported in Clonakilty, Lee Bridge, and Timoleague, among other areas.
