Some 150 children from all corners of Cork came decked out in their most festive gear to attend a Christmas jumper party hosted by Tusla Fora Cork.

The organisation said the event, which took place recently in the Metropole Hotel, was held “to celebrate all that is wonderful about children in care and their foster families”.

On the day, there was face painting, nail painting and sweet treats galore, and even Santa got into the groove as RedFM’s Stevie G provided music to help spread the Christmas cheer.

“We had a wonderful day celebrating with the young people in our care and our foster carers in the run up to Christmas,” regional chief officer of Tusla South, Anne Ryan, said.

“Everyone made a great effort with their Christmas jumpers and the festive atmosphere kicked off the Christmas spirit.

“We would like to thank our foster carers for all they do, they are instrumental to our work and provide support and safety to young people who need it most.”

Santa had very kind words for the children of Cork and assured them that he would most certainly be paying a visit on Christmas Eve.

Tusla said it looks forward to celebrating the Christmas jumper party as an annual event with the care community in Cork.

Currently there are 450 families who foster in Cork.

Tusla holds monthly online information sessions for anyone interested in becoming a foster carer.
